Q: How long have you been with Family Realty?

A: A little over 2 years

Q: What is your favorite neighborhood in Louisville?

A: I honestly don't have a favorite.  I am able to appreciate new areas all the time when assisting clients.  I love the uniqueness of the Highlands, the vibe of St Matthews, the history of Anchorage, the suburban feel of Eastwood, the rolling hills of Oldham, and driving through Shelbyville you are comforted by country charm.

Q: What is your favorite local business?

Real estate is even more lively with my amazingly talented, whimsical, hilarious and hard working business partner, Kate Dunlap.  She is truly one of a kind.  We do a great job of balancing each other out.  Together we have accomplished some truly amazing things for our client.  Our partnership just evolved naturally, we make a great team and even at the end of the longest days we laugh with each other.

When I am not working I am usually trying to plan a day of activities for my son,  working out (Thx Fit4MomLou), or planning our next beach getaway. We recently moved so I have spent a lot of time being creative with cosmetic changes and new decor.  We love having friends and family over to watch a game or grill out.  I love unplanned outings, a great girls night out or a walk in the park.  I feel most alive when surrounded by family and friends enjoying a gorgeous sunset, listening to live music or being creative.

Neighborhood Spotlight: Clifton

For many of us going on a stroll in the neighborhood has become a daily activity. Whether its walking down the street to the local grocery store or just taking a leisurely tour to get out of the house, the nice Louisville weather has been hard to pass up. That’s why we figured we would take you along with us while we visit one of our favorite Louisville neighborhoods: Clifton!

The Clifton neighborhood stretches from N Ewing Ave. to lower Brownsboro and Mellewood Ave just east of Downtown Louisville.

Restaurants and boutiques have been filling this area for the past few decades, revitalizing parts that were previously dilapidated and attracting local artists. Murals like these can be found all over the neighboorhood.

J. Gumbo's has been a staple of the neigborhood for over ten years. Support your local restaurants by ordering carryout or delivery!

Residents of Payne St. put out a "sharing basket" for passerbys to collect/replenish if they'd like. This house in particular creates displays like these for Hallowee, Valentine's Day, etc!

Vernon Ave has an amazing mix of architecture.

Sign at the top of the chicken steps at the end of Vernon Ave. A great message for current times.

The view from atop the chicken steps really reminds you why this area is called Clifton. Carved from quarries that were active up until the late 1800s, the steep cliffs can sometimes be tough to notice when the spring foliage begins to fill in. Originally wooden and used for local resident's chickens, these narrow steps were renovated in 1972 and have since been a great gateway between lower Brownsboro Rd and Frankfort Ave.

"Doesn't the train bother you?" Is one of the most frequently asked questions for Clifton residents. Luckily Clifton is a "quiet zone" for train horns, creating a need for signs like these signalling to pedestrians on footpaths to watch for trains. As for the trains themselves being a nuisance? "Ya just get used to it" locals will say.

Community chalk?

Some more positive messages being displayed at Dharma Meghah Yoga Shala  at the corner of Payne and S. Clifton.

Normally we don't suggest taking pictures on the train tracks but this was a pedestrian walkway, we swear!

Here is what Susie has to say:

"I feel fortunate to have met many wonderful people while working in Real Estate. Developing relationships with clients helps me better understand their needs and motivation for moving. As a licensed agent since 1995 I’ve learned every client and property is unique.

Outside of Real Estate, I have been married for 22 years and have three teenagers, two at Eastern High School and one at University of Cincinnati. Great Highlands Area Investment/Family Property - $340,000

At this time of the year my favorite street to drive down at night is Bardstown Rd. The night is dark, the air is crisp, all the restaurants, stores and coffee shops have their Christmas lights shining out their windows. People look like they’re having fun with friends and family.

If you want to own a rental property in real estate Louisville Bardstown Rd area neighborhoods are where you want to buy. We have a great investment property just two doors down from Bardstown Rd. 1846 Tyler Pkwy is a two unit rental property. It would also make a great single family unit if you prefer, and could easily be converted into one.

Both of the units have two bedrooms and one bathroom. An updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a butcher block counter top is a super feature of unit two. Both units contain tile and hardwood floors throughout. All bedrooms and bathrooms are quite stylish.

Being in the good rental location that it is both units fetch good rent. Unit 1 currently rents for $1300 per month while unit two rents for $1200 per month. If this property interests you please contact Scott Boehnlein of Family Realty

Family Realty At SBTS Preview Day

Family Realty had the pleasure of attending the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Preview Day. Our goal was to meet prospective students relocating themselves and their families to Louisville and help them in any way we can.

Knowing that relocating to a new city can be difficult we see the continual need for offering support to singles and families making this transition every semester. When you move to a new city it is hard to know who to trust, what areas are good for families, and what areas are good to invest in. You have lots of questions which we hope to provide answers too. Even if it is, "Where is a good dentist or doctor?"

We are also aware many students move to the seminary expecting to be here for only a couple years so they rent. Or they choose to rent for convenience and uncertainty of the market or areas. However many go on to find they will be in Louisville for a longer than they initially thought and so there housing needs change.

We hope to offer continual help, information, and peace of mind to prospective and current students. We had a great time at the SBTS Preview Day and were hosted with excellence. If you need any information or have any questions about Real Estate Louisville please contact Scott Boehnlein or one of our other agents at Family Realty.

Cool Off Your Summer Scrumptiously

One of the first things I ever ate in Lousville was an ice pop. Not just any ice pop, but a Steel City Pop! Even though it was the beginning of winter at the time I demolished that ice pop. How much more now that Summer is in full swing. Steel City Pops was started by Jim Watkins with much help from his family and friends.

Steel City Pops was birthed out of Jim's lifelong dream to own a restaurant. At age 40 he quit his job and began researching as much as he could about restaurant ownership while also developing recipes with his mom. He acknowledges the immense support and help of his wife and four sons in the development and running of their first ever restaurant. Steel City Pops now has 8 locations around the country.

They serve scrumptious ice pops made with only all natural or certified organic ingredients, never using artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Some of their fruity flavors include blood orange, cucmber lime, lavender lemonade, passion fruit, and lime. If you would prefer a creamier option they also have flavors that include but are not limited to Avocado, Buttermilk, Chocolate, Chocolate Chili, and Coconut.

As well as giving us great tasting pops they also give back to communities around the world. They give back globally to help provide water to places that don't have clean drinking water. They also give back locally to help those with disabilities and special needs.

Steel City Pops in Louisville is located on Bardstown Rd in the Highlands. The Highlands started as a suburb, but is now one of the most desirable areas to live in Louisville. A prominent feature of the Highlands is its grand Victorian homes and craftsman bungalows. Cherokee Park with its many trails, playgrounds, and picnic spots is also located in the Highlands. But probably the most well known feature of the Highlands is its many eclectic and authentic restaurants, especially along Bardstown Rd.

If you are intersted in moving to the Highlands we would love to help you find a new home. Or if you are wanting to sell your home in the Highlands or anywhere in Louisville we would love to help you. Real estate Louisville is what we know. Please contact Family Realty and speak with Scott Boehnlein or any of our agents
